An application or re-application fee and a testing fee per component are charged for each Application for Admission submitted.

AAS requires a High School Diploma or GED; TD requires Ability to Benefit

Note: Transferable General Education Courses needed to meet the requirements for the AAS are offered through a collaborative agreement with South Louisiana Community College (SLCC).

There is no diploma exit for this program. Applicants must have appropriate entrance placement test scores prior to admission.

Licensure/Certification: Surgical Technologist Certification issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)

The objectives of the Surgical Technology program are to provide students with skill and knowledge that will enable them to:
  • Assist in maintaining a safe operating room environment.
  • Apply the principles of aseptic technique to establish a sterile field, perform specific surgical tasks, and disinfect and sterilize to provide safe surgical care.
  • Provide for safe preoperative and perioperative care under the supervision of professional personnel.
  • Perform the specific skills required for assisting with selected/assigned surgical procedures.
  • Develop entry-level employment skills for the various roles of the surgical technologist.
  • Meet the educational requirements necessary to take the certification examination administered by the National Board of Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • Meet the AAS educational requirements necessary for successful completion of transferable General Education course:   English, Math, Speech, Psychology, and Physical Science.
