AAS requires a High School Diploma or GED; TD requires Ability to Benefit

Note: Transferable General Education Courses needed to meet the requirements for the AAS are offered through a collaborative agreement with South Louisiana Community College (SLCC).

Licensure/Certification: Medical Laboratory Technical License issued by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners, Laboratory Personnel Committee. A temporary license of one year can be obtained without certification. The National Certification is a requirement for State licensure, but not for graduation from the program.

The objectives of the Clinical Laboratory Technician program are as follows:
  • To provide classroom instruction and clinical experiences that will prepare the student for entry-level competence as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), as a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT), and/or as a Laboratory Technician in related fields.
  • To prepare the student to successfully complete a national certification examination for Medical Laboratory Technician/Clinical Laboratory Technician and obtain a Louisiana license to practice.
  • To enable the student to acquire skills in the affective domain to ensure success.
