Mission and Program Description:
Through classroom instruction and clinical experiences this program prepares individuals to perform diagnostic tests and procedures in a clinical laboratory under the supervision of medical technologists and pathologists.
This program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) and the American Medical Association (AMA). Graduates are eligible to take the National Examination administered by the National Certification Agency (NCA) for medical laboratory personnel and the Medical Laboratory Technician Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
A high school education or equivalent and the entrance placement exam scores are required for admission to this program. There is no technical diploma exit for this program.

Licensure/Certification:

Medical Laboratory Technical License issued by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners, Laboratory Personnel Committee. A temporary license of one year can be obtained without certification. The National Certification is a requirement for State licensure, but not for graduation from the program.

Note: Transferable General Education Courses needed to meet the requirements for the AAS are offered through a collaborative agreement with South Louisiana Community College (SLCC).
The objectives of the Clinical Laboratory Technician program are as follows:
- To provide classroom instruction and clinical experiences that will prepare the student for entry-level competence as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), as a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT), and/or as a Laboratory Technician in related fields.
- To prepare the student to successfully complete a national certification examination for Medical Laboratory Technician/Clinical Laboratory Technician and obtain a Louisiana license to practice.
- To enable the student to acquire skills in the affective domain to ensure success.

COST
An application or re-application fee and a testing fee per component are charged for each Application for Admission submitted.
Tuition is paid by the semester. (SEE - Tuition and Fees) Students are also required to purchase books and supplies separately. Contact your host campus for a complete projected cost of this program.
The college accepts cash, personal and company checks, MasterCard or Visa for all fees. A percentage of tuition and fees are refundable up to the tenth day of instruction. No refund will be made after the tenth day.
