Professionalism Adjunct faculty are expected to provide the same high-level performance as full time faculty members. Each employee should manage his/her private affairs so that they will not interfere with work time and efficiency. Exceptions are crises involving severe illnesses, unforeseeable prohibiting events, and substantial property loss. The Chief Workforce and Training Officer and campus dean will be responsible for monitoring adjunct personnel. Work Schedules Classes are typically scheduled after 3:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. Some classes may be held on weekends. Classes are approved for a minimum number of hours. All classes must meet each class meeting for the full time allotted. Attendance Every adjunct faculty member is expected to be aware of his/her scheduled classes, to be on time, and in attendance regularly. This positive and professional attitude toward attendance will serve as a good example for students. If for some valid reason an instructor cannot teach a scheduled class, it is his/her responsibility to notify the campus dean or the Chief Workforce and Training Officer as quickly as possible. Time Sheets Each adjunct faculty member will complete the required time sheets in a timely manner and will turn them into the appropriate person by the dates due. Failure to do so could result in failure to get paid since bookkeepers are bound to specific deadlines regarding payroll. Overtime Adjunct employees are hired by contract to teach a specified number of hours. No overtime will be paid. Safety The concerns for safety and the development of good, safe working habits are prime responsibilities of each adjunct faculty member. Safety procedures should be addressed during student orientation as well as within the curriculum. Please refer to the safety manual appropriate to your course and the location of your class. Security Policy Security is the responsibility of each adjunct faculty member. Please be aware of any persons not authorized to be in attendance and notify the appropriate personnel of violators. In addition, safety issues should be addressed with students during orientation. Suspicious persons/situations should be reported immediately. Evaluations Evaluations addressing the course/instructor will be conducted by the instructor at the conclusion of each course. Completed evaluation forms will be forwarded to the Campus Dean who will forward to the Chief Workforce and Training Officer. Purchasing All purchasing related to the course must be requested to and purchased by the campus dean following state purchasing regulations. Purchases will be allowed only if sufficient funds are available. Supplies necessary for routine instruction can be obtained from the campus CEU coordinator. Progress Reports and Documentation Instructors will maintain complete written documentation on each student. All tests, activities, student progress reports, competency records, or any other records pertaining to each student will be maintained by the instructor and turned into the campus dean or his/her representative at the end of the course. If CEUs are being provided for the course, all student records must be copied and sent to the ICET Coordinator at the LTC, Lafayette Campus. Class Cancellations Early registration determines if the class will be held. Cancellations are determined by class enrollment prior to the class start date. Please encourage students to register at least one week before the class is scheduled to begin. A minimum of 10 students is required in order to offer each class. Instructors will be notified of class cancellations. The CED Coordinator at the campus will notify students of the class cancellation. Instructor’s Messages Messages will not be given to instructors during class time—unless it is an emergency. If an instructor is expecting a phone message, please check with the receptionist in the campus office. Parking LTC, Greater Acadiana Region 4 has reserved parking for all faculty and staff. Instructors may park in any available parking slot. Disciplinary Action When supervisory personnel judge that sufficient abuse of professional integrity has occurred or that normal supervisory practices and informal discussions have been ineffective, the cited employee will be given, or otherwise receive, a written statement defining the violation(s), the time and place of occurrence, and other pertinent information. The statement will conclude with one or more of the following:
The disciplined employee may follow the formal Grievance Procedure set forth by the Louisiana Community and Technical College System if he/she feels that the disciplinary action is too severe or unjustly imposed. Self-discipline is desired over supervisory discipline. Self-discipline is synonymous with personal and professional integrity.
